IMA has a history spanning more than 45 years. The Group was founded in 1981 on the initiative of several insurers, including MAIF and MACIF. Other mutual insurance companies joined them over the years, and today they all contribute to the Group's dynamism

A look back at 45 years of history!

1981 

Inter Mutuelles Assistance (IMA) was founded in Niort on the initiative of three major mutual insurance companies, including MAIF and MACIF, later joined by MATMUT, Mutuelle des Motards, AGPM, MAPA, etc., with the aim of providing human, medical and technical assistance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. 

1989 

IMA Ibérica and IMA Italia were opened to assist policyholders travelling abroad. These were followed by IMA Deutschland in 1991, IMA Benelux in 2001 and WAFA IMA Assistance in 2002. 

1999-2000 

With IMATECH and IMA Protect, IMA acquired two French entities based in Nantes, specialising in customer relations and remote monitoring. 

2007 

Inter Mutuelles Habitat (IMH) is founded in Niort-Echiré to meet the needs of victims of home damage and support development projects. Two sites are subsequently opened in Marseille and Schiltigheim. 

2018 

To support its business growth and move closer to some of its shareholders (Matmut, Cardif IARD, MAE), IMA opened a new operational site in Rouen. 

2023 

IMA Assurances, a company belonging to the IMA Group, becomes the reinsurer for its insurer shareholders. At the same time, IMA GIE takes on the trade name IMA Assistance France. 

2024 

To respond to the growth of its business, IMA establishes itself in Limoges with the opening of new assistance centres. 
 

For 45 years, IMA has been growing, innovating and reinventing itself to better meet the needs of its shareholders, partners, customers and beneficiaries. As a result, we now have a presence in France and internationally, with more than 6,000 employees covering our areas of expertise: Mobility, Home, Health & Well-being, and Travel & Medical.
