IMA & Plastic Odyssey: Four years around the world to transform plastic into a resource

Plastic pollution is one of the greatest challenges of our century. To address this issue, the IMA Group is proud to support the Plastic Odyssey adventure, a unique expedition dedicated to combating marine pollution, from its departure from Marseille until its return, scheduled for 2026.

An expedition into the heart of critical areas

Setting sail in October 2022 on a four-year journey, the Plastic Odyssey research vessel will travel along the coasts of three continents: Africa, Latin America, and Asia. This round-the-world trip will focus on regions where waste management infrastructure is most fragile, with the aim of stopping the flow of plastic before it reaches the oceans.

  • Acting at the source: the micro-factory model

Rather than simply collecting waste already in the sea, Plastic Odyssey takes action on land. At each port of call, the team deploys low-tech (accessible and inexpensive) recycling solutions and trains local entrepreneurs.
The goal? To transform plastic waste into economic resources, such as fuel or building materials, thereby creating a truly local circular economy.

  • A commitment to the future and to passing on knowledge

By supporting this initiative over the long term, we are reaffirming our commitment to sustainable innovation and prevention.
This partnership illustrates our conviction that it is through knowledge sharing and international cooperation that we will build resilient solutions for the planet.
