Heatwaves: follow these simple steps to protect your health
As France experiences further heatwaves this summer, the extreme heat poses a genuine public health challenge. According to data from Santé publique France, heatwaves can have significant health consequences, particularly for older, isolated or vulnerable people. In 2025, more than 24,000 heat-related visits to A&E were recorded, and more than 5,700 deaths were attributed to heat exposure.
During heatwaves, it is therefore essential to take a few simple steps to look after your own health and that of the most vulnerable people.
The first piece of advice is to drink regularly and eat enough to avoid the risk of dehydration. It is also recommended that you avoid drinking alcohol and stay out of the sun as much as possible.

Keep your home cool: close the shutters and windows during the day, then air the rooms when the temperature drops, particularly at night.

Hot weather places a heavy strain on the body. That is why it is best to minimise physical exertion as much as possible during the hottest parts of the day.
Finally, heatwaves call for collective vigilance. A simple phone call or visit can make all the difference to an elderly, isolated or vulnerable person. Checking in on and keeping in touch with loved ones remains one of the most important habits to adopt during periods of high temperatures.
To enjoy the summer with complete peace of mind, a few simple steps are often all it takes to minimise the risks. Should the need arise or in the event of an unforeseen situation, the IMA Group’s teams are on hand 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to guide and assist their policyholders in their day-to-day lives.
