Medical repatriation: IMA modernises its logistics base in Montreuil
In Montreuil, on the outskirts of Paris, IMA has a logistics centre dedicated to medical evacuations and repatriations. These fully refurbished facilities have been redesigned to streamline mission preparation and ensure the quality of our operations. This transformation is aimed at improving the care provided to our policyholders.
A vital part of medical repatriation
Located close to Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle and Le Bourget airports, the Montreuil base serves as a strategic hub for IMA’s medical transport operations. It facilitates the storage and preparation of the medical equipment required for these missions, as well as its inspection and maintenance following each operation.
Following four months of works, the premises have been completely refurbished to make them more modern, functional and secure. The new layout improves visibility of the available equipment and streamlines its preparation before the teams set off.
The haulier now has a 360° view of all available equipment. The new layout gives the haulier a comprehensive overview of the available equipment. At a glance, they can identify the equipment required and prepare for jobs more efficiently.
Over 30 years of service in medical repatriation
The Montreuil base has been supporting medical repatriation operations for over 30 years. In 2025, IMA carried out 774 medical evacuations, 450 of which were operated from Montreuil. Some missions may require up to 60 kg of medical equipment, particularly when transport is by air ambulance or road ambulance.
The preparation and monitoring of this equipment rely in particular on six logistics nurses, who take turns to recondition and carry out preventive maintenance on it. More broadly, doctors, nurses, an assistant and transport staff work in a coordinated manner to prepare for and carry out these missions.
A refurbishment to enhance the quality of operations
Beyond the refurbishment of the premises, the project has a wider aim: to ensure the long-term quality of medical repatriation operations and the standard of care provided to beneficiaries.
As Dr Quentin Silve, Medical Director, points out, medical repatriation takes place in situations where beneficiaries may be particularly vulnerable. This close involvement demands a high level of medical expertise and exacting standards in the quality of service. The refurbishment of the Montreuil logistics base is fully in line with this approach.
